SAIMENA’s National Science and Technology Forum Membership: A Strategic Step Forward For Our Profession
We are pleased to confirm that SAIMENA’s application for membership of the National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) has been officially approved under the Professional Bodies & Learned Societies sector (proSET). This affiliation positions our institute at the heart of South Africa’s science, engineering, technology, and innovation (SET) policy dialogue.
The NSTF is a non-profit company and non-profit organisation. The NSTF is an umbrella stakeholder body that is broadly representative. It is for all organisations in South Africa with an interest in science, engineering, technology (SET) and innovation. The NSTF is the largest, oldest and most representative stakeholder body of its kind, with a proud history of stakeholder engagement with government and continued support from stakeholders on all levels. It represents more than 100 organisations, councils and institutions in South Africa and spans both the private and public sectors.
Our membership ensures that the unique perspectives of marine engineers and naval architects are formally represented in decisions shaping our country’s technological future, particularly relevant as South Africa advances its Ocean Economy agenda.
What this means for you:
- Direct Representation: Gerard Mohamed (Cape Branch Chair) have been nominated to represent SAIMENA on the Forum, with President Kevin Watson as alternate. We will receive NSTF communications and ensure your technical expertise informs national discussions.
- Visibility & Influence: SAIMENA gains a platform among 150+ member organisations. We can contribute to the NSTF eNews, voice positions on policy matters, and nominate members for the prestigious NSTF-South32 Awards (“Science Oscars”).
- Professional Development: Access to discussion forums, youth outreach initiatives (STEMulator.org), and the SET career bursary directory creates opportunities for mentorship, collaboration, and pipeline development.
