Please take note of a new IMO-European Union Project: “Capacity Building for Climate Change Mitigation in the Maritime Shipping Sector,” which might be of interest to your organization. The information has already been circulated through an IMO Circular Letter and has also been published on the IMO website.
With €10 million funding from the European Union, the heart of this project will be to establish five Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres (MTCCs) hosted by existing institutes within the target regions, namely Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Pacific. Host institutes will receive three years of funding to set up, capacitate and operate these MTCCs. Once up and running, they are expected to promote the uptake of low carbon technologies and operations within the maritime transport sectors of their regions and assist with the related capacity-building efforts.
The attached Call for Expressions of Interest, which was issued by IMO on 15 April 2016, includes an Executive Summary to the project, a briefing document (Appendix 1) and an Expression of Interest Template (Appendix 2). Interested organizations are expected to submit the Expression of Interest to tender@imo.org no later than 17.30 p.m. BST on 15 May 2016.
